Monroe St. Celebrates Earth Day

Join us on Saturday, April 26!

OUR EARTH DAY CELEBRATION WILL
BE ON SATURDAY, APRIL 26, 2025

Fun activities for adults and children!

• 10:00-11:30 Drop in Art workshop for kids at the Monroe Street Library, 1705 Monroe Street• Saturday morning Art Clubs are fun for kids of all ages. Join Deckard in making liquid watercolor paintings.

10:00 - 12:00 Lake Wingra Cleanup, co-sponsored by the Friends of Lake Wingra and Wingra Boats. Hop on a Wingra Boats canoe or your own watercraft to pick up trash in the lake as part of your Earth Day celebration. Trash bags, gloves and grabbers will be provided. You can reserve a canoe or kayak here.

• 12:30 - 1:30 Biking is good for our environment! Bring yours to Monroe Street for Free Bike Decorating at Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream, 2531 Monroe Street. Supplies with an Earth Day theme will be provided.

• 1:30 Bike Parade through Wingra Park for kids and adults - strollers welcome too!

April 12-28: The Monroe Street Capybara Scavenger Hunt featuring upcycled capybara from the Henry Vilas Zoo in the windows of our shops, restaurants and other businesses. It will be open to kids 2-18, and forms will be available at the Monroe Street Library and Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream. Get a free treat for completing your form - five lucky participants will a punch card good for 6 carousel or train rides at the Zoo. The grand prize is a behind the scenes Zoo tour! May 3: Party for the Planet at the Henry Vilas Zoo will be held on Saturday, May 3rd. In addition to the sale of the colorful capybara from our Scavenger Hunt, made by volunteers from surplus Zoo t-shirts, the day will feature tree climbing. Wheelchair harnesses will be available! There will also be activities provided by the Zoo’s partners from Save Our Songbirds, Dane County Land and Water, Wisconsin DNR, Tree Canopy Collaborative to learn about local plants, and native pollinators and songbirds. They will be giving away American Hazelnut and Sycamore saplings for you to take home and plant while supplies last. We’ll also have storytime by Henry the Lion, and an opportunity to meet some of our special animal ambassadors up close. For the full schedule of events, click on this link.

Bloom Bake Shop, 1851 Monroe Street, will give 5% off to to customers who bring their own travel mugs for coffee or food containers for baked goods on Earth Day, April 22.

Monroe Street Framing, 1901 Monroe Street, will donate 20% of sales on Earth Day, April 22 to Clean Lakes Alliance.

Mystery to Me, 1863 Monroe Street, invites you to learn and celebrate the Earth through their curated Earth Day display. Books featured will be 15% off on Earth Day, April 22.

Orange Tree Imports, 1721 Monroe Street, will hold a prize drawing for basket of earth-friendly products ($50 value) on Saturday, April 26th.

Hive, 1904 Monroe Street, will have a raffle a day during the week of Earth Day (approximately $100 retail value). They’ll offer free pollinator friendly seeds with every purchase all week, while supplies last, and make donations to local environmental organizations.
